'Smooth as Silk' Therapy Helps Dardanelle Man Resume Golf Game

Patient George Jones came in with a limited active range of motion, pain, and walking with a rolling walker. “He achieved a full active range of motion in his knee and got rid of the rolling walker within a few weeks. He has returned to playing golf and enjoying his pain-free mobility,” said Clark Short, a physical therapist at Dardanelle Regional Medical Center.

George Jones credits Dardanelle Regional Medical Center physical therapists Clark Short and Haley Edwards for assisting him in getting back to his golf game just three weeks after his total knee replacement surgery.

The first question that Jones, 78, asked was when he could resume playing his favorite sport after the knee replacement. The surgeon promised three weeks, and Short and Edwards delivered. “After three weeks, I took the brace off and didn’t use the walker,” Jones said.

George Jones was a model patient, according to Clark Short. “He had a goal of returning to playing golf as soon as possible. He walks the golf course versus riding in a cart,” said Short.   “I was a little skeptical of this goal, but I told him we would do our best to help him get back to his sport.”

Jones decided to have the knee replacement after a lengthy discussion with his family. He was pleasantly surprised by the rehabilitation process. After surgery, he worked hard during his therapy sessions to reach his goal. “The entire process was as smooth as silk, thanks to Clark and Haley,” Jones said. “I’ve been very pleased.”

A 40-year Dardanelle resident who works as an agent for Farm Bureau Insurance, Jones was impressed by the professionalism shown by the two therapists. “I have seen the hospital really improve since Conway Regional began managing it,” said Jones.
